Announcing the 2014 GA GAPNA Clinical Excellence Award Winner!

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Katherine A. Evans, DNP, FNP-C, GNP-BC as the recipient of the Georgia GAPNA Excellence in Clinical Practice Award.

Dr. Evans has been practicing in geriatrics for almost a decade, and during that time has been instrumental in enhancing geriatric care throughout the state of Georgia. She is the NP liaison to the Georgia Medical Directors Association (GMDA), a member of the Georgia POLST Collaborative, and has been instrumental in the partnership between Georgia GAPNA and the Atlanta Regional Geriatric Education Center (ARGEC). She also spear-headed the Georgia GAPNA Annual Conference, which we now partner with the ARGEC on each year. Dr. Evans is a prior presenter at the local GMDA Conference, and at the National GAPNA Conference. She recently partnered with a Long Term Care Epidemiologist at the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to develop algorithms for the identification, testing, and prudent antibiotic treatment for UTIs -vs - identifying asymptomatic bacteriuria. This development of standards for best practice was recently highlighted by a poster presentation at the American Medical Directors Association. Dr. Evans will also be presenting this quality improvement project at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Annual National Forum on Quality Improvement in Healthcare. Dr. Evans also serves as a Clinical Advisor in her daily NP role, mentoring new Nurse Practitioners that will be caring for a geriatric population. She also serves as adjunct faculty at Emory University and Vanderbilt University, helping to educate future NP's.

We are very fortunate to have Dr. Katherine Evans as part of our local Georgia Chapter of GAPNA, and are honored to be able to present her with our state clinical excellence award. Dr. Evans will receive a paid registration to the 2014 or 2015 National GAPNA Conference, as well as a recognition plaque at the GA GAPNA Business Meeting in August.
