Greetings from GA GAPNA!

We hope you are safe and well during this time. Because we were unable to recognize our scholarship winner at this year's conference due to cancellation, we want to take a moment and make sure you know all about her!

The Georgia GAPNA 2020 Penny Maynard Memorial Scholarship recipient is Shanice Figeuroa.

Shanice Figueroa, BSN, RN is currently working toward her MSN in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As a board-certified medical-surgical nurse at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Shanice currently serves as the GI Endoscopy Charge Nurse. She has also been a nurse case manager involved in mental and behavioral health therapies for veterans under the Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Program, and conducted a pilot study on compliance with chemotherapy safety at a medical center. Shanice is passionate about primary care-mental health integration and plans to use her advanced practice role to increase collaboration among primary care and mental health providers. Furthermore, she is dedicated to becoming a provider who focuses on the needs of individuals and their caregivers across a transcultural continuum to promote early intervention, medication reconciliation, and health literacy.

GA GAPNA is immensely proud of all our student members, our future expert geriatric leaders! Congratulations to Shanice!
